Room, rebuilt
Demolition to done, with my own hands and a very patient vacuum cleaner.
A room I lived with for too long, wrong in every way it could be. Rather than hire it out, I took the whole thing back to the studs and rebuilt it myself over a string of weekends.
Walls came down and went back up straighter. Wiring I ran myself (and had checked, before anyone asks). New light where there was gloom, new surfaces, new proportions. The kind of project where you learn plastering by doing it badly, then less badly, then well.
Doing it by hand teaches you things a contractor’s invoice never would — how a space actually goes together, and how much of “I can’t” is really just “I haven’t yet.” The vacuum did not enjoy it. I did.
